The price of fame is too much love. When you are a dog as big as Otto--two and one-half stories tall--and as famous, it is hard to find a quiet place to go for a vacation. The great dog and his master, Duke, found what they thought was a perfect yellow house by a river, hidden by mountains and in a country quite ignored in both history and geography books. They were wrong. Nearby lived Baron Backgammon, who grew the world's biggest roses and the world's biggest potatoes. Baron Backgammon's roses were beautiful, but they fell apart at the sound of a gong. His potatoes were as big as automobiles, but they were full of water. Baron Backgammon was certain that a study of Otto would help him make his roses strong and his potatoes fit to eat.
