At the level of the village ofUntersteinach a bypass was created, 550 meters of whichincorporates the Schorgast Valley bridge. Civil engineeringfirms BPR Dr. Schäpertöns Consult GmbH and SRP Schneider& Partner won the 2010 competition in partnership withSBR Schultz-Brauns & Reinhart Architekten. They selected amulti-span cable-stayed bridge to extend in a wide arc acrossthe Schorgast flood plain. At the awards ceremony, the jurypraised the structurally and visually impressive form for itsself-confident appearance, its harmony, transparency andsignificance. With its one-sided suspension and six internallyradiating pylons the structure creates a strong optical statement,as well as offering a convincing contribution to thelocal Baukultur. The bridge opened to traffic in 2020.
