Arne Jacobsen designed this lampas well as many other elementsin 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The floor lamp creates a pleasant, downward-directed light thanks to the white lacquered interior of its shade. The shade can also be tilted to adjust the light emission. The AJ lamp series is probably Arne Jacobsen's most famous design worldwide. In addition to the AJ floor lamp, the AJ lamp series also included a larger and a smaller table lamp, a wall lamp, and a permanently installed table lamp. All of these lamps were part of the SAS Royal Hotel when it opened in 1960. The clean, elegant form of the AJ lamp with its flawless light was found throughout the hotelin copper and stainless steel versions.
