Edo Kiriko is the cut glass of Tokyo. In this traditional world of small workshops, the Shimizu Glass company is unique in several respects. Firstly it is led by a woman, Michiyo Shimizu. The team that Shimizu has built in her workshop has a balance of tremendous experience (the lead craftsman has been working sixty years in the field), and opportunities for young people seeking to renew the tradition. Known more than anything for its quality, these 'windmill' style glasses are fine examples of Shimizu Glass's work. Black coloured glass is hard to produce, and hard to work with. Not that you would know by these pieces that culminate in a clear and monochrome swirl at their base. They are perfect for a stylish moment with a drink in your hand.
