Table lamp Melt with unusual shade design This table lamp presents itself with an extravagant look. Melt was created in cooperation of the British designer Tom Dixon with the Swedish design collective FRONT. The aim was to create a naturalistic lighting object and this was achieved in a very special way. The shape of Melt's polycarbonate shade is reminiscent of unevenly melted glass. The production method was realized in cooperation with German engineers. By injection moulding, a molten plastic polymer is injected into a solid steel tool, inflated with compressed air and then cooled The high-gloss finish was achieved by vacuum metallization. The semi-mirrored effect creates a hyper-reflective surface when switched off, which transforms into a transparent coloured surface when the lighting is switched on.
