A compact variety with a stocky habit and short, sturdy spires, Verbascum ‘Dark Eyes’ (Mullein) is a low maintenance and long-lasting addition to the front of a border or for displaying in patio containers. Great for combining with other perennials to make a contrast in habit or achieve the quintessential cottage garden look. During the summer months, the upright stems produce a beautiful show of lemon-yellow flowers, each with a striking burgundy eye for contrast. A great choice for a small space as well as for introducing a vertical accent into a planting scheme without becoming too tall. Plant Mullein into well drained, neutral or alkaline soil in full sun. Verbascum will thrive on poor, gravelly soils. Established Verbascum plants require little maintenance. Deadhead faded flower spikes to encourage more verbascum flowers to be produced.
