Also commonly known as the Oregon grape, Mahonia Charity is an intriguing specimen that is like no other. They are upright evergreen shrubs that are composed off dense bunches of bright yellow flower spikes, and holly shaped evergreen leaves. These small yet vibrant yellow flowers bloom through the winter months of November to March adding much needed colour and fragrance to gardens during a time where very little else is produced. This variety of Mahonia offers year round interest, the glossy evergreen leaves remain a deep green throughout the year, whereas the yellow flowers fade in colour and turn to small bunches of purple berries. One of the best features of the Mahonia Charity is its ability to thrive in particularly shaded areas. Shaded conditions do not have an effect of the performance and therefore Mahonia Charity would be more than suitable for woodland gardens where sunlight may be harder to come by. This hardy shrub is also suitable for use in borders and corners of garden
