Marking the 75th Anniversary of D-Day - the brand-new D-Day 75th Anniversary £5 Coin Seventy-five years ago, on 6 June the fate of our nation was determined by a daring operation. The operation would change the course of history and mark a turning point in the Second World War launching the liberation of Europe from the Nazis. It was, of course, Operation Overlord, and the day, 6 June 1944 will forever be remembered as D-Day. To commemorate the 75th Anniversary in 2019, a new £5 coin has been issued, officially licensed by the Ministry of DefenceTo mark the 75th Anniversary of D-Day in 2019, a new £5 coin has been issued as a lasting tribute to the courage of all those who fought for our freedom. The D-Day landings involved one of the largest-ever amphibious operations in the history of warfare. The operation involved 10,546 aircraft from 678 squadrons, combined with a 7,016 vessel assault, ranging from battleships to small landing craft. In total, 156,000 troops were landed on D-Day.
