Daniel Swarovski, founder of the crystal empire, was a glass cutter. He moved from Bohemia to the Tyrolean town of Wattens to found his company in 1895. Swarovski designed a special machine that allowed glass to be cut in such a way that artificial crystals could be formed. Today, the company is run by the fifth generation descendants of the founder.
