The images in this book were made by Anna Atkins, one of the earliest female photographers and the first person to produce a photographically illustrated book in 1843, pre-dating Fox Talbot'sThe Pencil of Nature. The Sun Gardens of this book were made by Atkins in the manner of Sir John Herschel's cyanotype using the sun to expose the image and used by Atkins to document her collection of seaweeds initially and in later years also her photograms of ferns, flowers, lace and feathers. This book explores the imagery that she made and also her achievement. It includes contributions from Joshua Chuang and Emily Walz from The New York Public Library. Measurements: 25.6cm x 31.8cm x 3.3cm
