Alcard was a famous single handed sailor. There is an inscription on the inside cover in biro dated July 1956 but this is not legible. There is an explanation of sailing terms at the back of the book. The book is the story of the writer Ann Davidson who with limited experience sailed her 23ft yacht Felicity Ann from the UK to America via the West Indies singlehanded, the first woman ever to do so. The book recounts her many adventures, and the skill and determination required. In 1950 there was no global navigation system, navigation and the yacht was exhibited at the New York Boat Show. The book is in fair condition,
