Mishio Suzuki is a potter based near Kasama in the traditional ceramic region north of Tokyo. This water jug is from her Lux series of carved patterned ceramics. The soft blue glaze colour is covered with snow like specks. The angle of the spout sits at 45 degrees to the horizontal lines of upper section, with trellised pattern-work beneath. Mishio Suzuki was inspired initially by German and European product design. But by travelling in Europe she came to appreciate more the pottery tradition in her own region of Kasama in Japan. Carrying with her the diverse range of influences she acquired, Suzuki trained with the Kasama master potter Akio Nukaga, before establishing her own kiln in 2006. This water jug is 17.5cm high, with a diameter of 7cm. The spout is 3cm long, and the piece weighs 450g.
