Clos de Luz is a family winery located in Almahue Valley, known as the birthplace of the Carmenere grape in Chile. The estate was bought by Gabriel Edwards in 1892, and is still in the family. Now spanning over 33 hectares of vineyards, they are some of the oldest Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Chile. Their current winemaker, Felipe Uribe, studied at Polytechnic University in Madrid where he got his Masters degree in Viticulture and Enology. Looking for new challenges he went to USA and worked for La Crema Winey at Sonoma Valley after which he returned to Chile and went on to win several significant national wine awards. This Malbec has intense notes of black fruits, blackberries, ripe cranberries and chocolate. It makes for a delicious partner for red meats, particularly grilled lamb with mint sauce. It also goes very well with beef stew and spicy beef.
