Many others are parables about spiritual and moral issues, meant to teach a deeper lesson. We don't necessarily know which stories are factual and which are not. Often, however, it doesn't matter; the meaning is what's important. Unless the story can be applied in our lives today, it's useless. Paul said, "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness" (2 Tim 3:16). This verse tells us that the information in the Bible is there for a purpose. When we read or hear scripture, we must let it speak to us in a personal way. Unless the passage helps us answer our questions or solve our problems, then it's not God's word to us.
