No Spanish wine can match the icon status of Rioja. Rioja Alta is the epitome of tradition with their mellow, savoury wines and history stretching back to 1890. Theyve crafted this for us at their base in Haro, where winemaker Julio Sáenz has been working his magic for over 20 years using a mix of cutting-edge technology and hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes grown 500 metres above sea level. Aged for two years in American oak barriques and longer in bottle to earn a Reserva classification, the wine has intense aromas of strawberry, raspberry and cherry, as well as vanilla, coffee and hazelnut notes. Crack it open with grilled lamb chops or aubergine.
