When the use of riding pants (breeches), which had been used by all the armed forces, was limited to equestrian troops, the Army revamped its uniform style and adopted chinos made of 8.2-ounce cotton twill. The chino cloth used by Buzz Rickson's is a faithful reproduction from the yarn stage, based on an analysis of fabrics from World War II. Of the high-quality cotton, the longest (highest-grade) fiber is selected and made into a twisted yarn (two yarns spun into one), which is then woven into twill fabric. Compared to a single yarn, the twisted yarn makes the fabric durable but very sleek.
