The PH 2/1 Table Lamp is made from three-layer, mouth-blown white opal glass. It emits soft, harmonious, and pleasant light, primarily directed downward. This lamp is based on Poul Henningsens celebrated three-shade system, which he designed in 1925 with the goal of giving appealing, glare-free light a clear form. The first lamp using this three-shade system was developed in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the Paris World Exhibition in the same year. The so-calledParis Lampreceived a gold award. Henningsen pursued a rigorous, scientific approach to lighting and designed additional lamps based on this system. Using the lituus-curve-based three-shade system, he achieved an even distribution of light. Furthermore, the glass diffuses the light, preventing glare and unwanted shadows. The numbers in the PH lamp names indicate the size of the shades. The top shade of the PH 2/1 Table Lamp has a diameter of approximately 20 cm, while the lower shades are taken from the 1/1 model.
