Its creator, Christian Dell, was a German silversmith and designer (1893-1974) who, after completing his professional training, studied under Henry van de Velde at the Saxon School of Arts and Crafts in Weimar from 1912 to 1913. From 1922 to 1925, he worked as a workshop foreman in the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1926 he took over the direction of the Frankfurt art school.
