Opal glass pendant lamp Chouchin 2 by Foscarini with warm white LEDs The shade of the LED pendant lamp Chouchin, a light creation of the French designer Ionna Vautrin for the Italian manufacturer Foscarini, consists entirely of blown, opal white glass and is shaped as a rounded cylinder. Traditional Japanese lanterns not only inspired Vautrin to design the Chouchin lamp series, but also gave it its name. In Japan, the lanterns are traditionally hung as luminous signs in front of pubs or as lucky charms in front of houses, the luminaire series Couchin, however, illuminates interiors with its light radiating to all sides and tables or counters directly through the lower shade opening. The LEDs installed in the shade provide warm white light and, thanks to the good colour rendering index (CRI > 90), ensure that paintings, for example, are well presented.
