These plates, which have been finished with a red glaze, are part of the La Mère collection. La Mère, the first ceramic tableware line of Marie Michielssen, is a loving ode to the (grand-)mother figure and women in general. By embracing eating together as a moment that connects people, the collection reflects the often intuitive roles women have fulfilled in family life through the generations. The tableware looks slightly nostalgic but is, in many ways, innovative because of its vertical structure. Each shape is unique and hand-moulded. All pieces are finished with a glaze in broken white or a warm dark brown, almost black. As a third contrasting colour, Marie chose a bold Venetian red.
