From the iconic Ukiyo-E paintings to the recent golden age of horror movies, Japan has always been a place where strange stories come alive in many surprising ways. Japanese folklore monsters, yokai, can adopt many different forms, from the most scary yurei that inspired modern horror movies to extravagant umbrella, sandals or haunted flashlights. Focusing on our iconic Wave Rider 10 of the 2000s, the Yokai package is created for shoes. Among the details and finishes, we hid a unique embroidery under the tongue mesh layer that our sneakers' fans can cut to release the monster behind. For this Wave Rider 10 in particular, we inspire ourselves in Chochin Obake: the haunted flashlight that has a strange eye and tongue that will suddenly tear the paper and appear from an innocent flashlight.
