This catalogue charts the meteoric rise of William Scott (1913-89) from his working class roots in Scotland and Northern Ireland to international stardom beginning in the late 1950s. Despite occupying studios in London, Venice and Berlin, he made North Somerset the centre of his activities for almost half a century, including a decade teaching at Bath Academy of Art. In both art and life, Scott made a virtue of simplicity, stripping away surface detail in his quest to reveal the magic beneath. The result was a pictorial language as sensitive as it was sensual, honed to perfection in the pictures featured in this centenary publication." (Taken from inside the front cover) Catalogue published for the exhibition of the same name held at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, September to November 2013. Soft, pictorial covers. Minor scuffs and edgewear to covers. Very clean internally, with no annotations or inscriptions noted. Binding remains good. Photos, images and artwork remain vivid.
