The thematic focus of Bill Christenberry's work in which painting, drawing, sculpture and photography are combined to a unique form of expression, is placed squarely on the South of the United States where he was born in 1936 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His own biography and that of his home region, where he has made annual working visits for decades, are a constant source of inspiration. Regional heritage and socioeconomic development are documented with particular clarity in his series of photographs recording the changing face of buildings, locations and landscapes over decades. This publication is the first major presentation of those series. In this context, the catalog also includes selected works from the artist's other creative fields.
