Excellent copy of this hardback book. Duct jacket intact and unmarked (see photos). All pages clean, tight and intact. William Brown came to Louth in 1818, aged 30. He married three times, having thirteen children by his first wife, of whom five grew into adulthood. When the spire of St James's church was scaffolded for repairs in 1844, he climbed to the top of the platform at 300 feet to sketch his remarkable 360 degrees panorama. He converted the sketches to two oil on linen canvasses each 9 feet by 6 feet. They were first exhibited in 1847. He then made alterations as the new buildings appeared, and exhibited them again in 1856. Public improvements in the town he recorded in the Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury in as much detail as he applied to the paintings....
