The war had ended some five years previously there was still rationing on food and sweets when this issue was published. Clothes had been rationed until 1949 so new garments were still a luxury for many women. Paper rationing only ended in March of this year when Vogue was free to increase its print run. There are advertisements for Vogue patterns and fabrics are advertised too as many women either made their own clothes or used a dressmaker to copy the latest styles. The Nylon ad extolls the virtues of the manmade fibre that so thrilled the women at that time - strength, crush resistance, shape retention and washability. The advertisement for Roses Lime Marmalade sells its deliciousness but also stresses that supplies are still limited.
