This piece is unique. Made for original owner around 1958. It is a handmade box which has been hand decorated, incorporating the name of the man it was made for. Douglass Semonin, (who died aged 45 in 1971) was a successful designer, specializing in wallpapers and home furnishings. He also made larger paintings (several male nudes). The hand made box meaures11cm x15cm and is c 6cm high. Separate lid. The paper covering the card box is a bit atty around the extreme edges and is probably a bit discoloured (or might have been artificially aged?) The painting at first looks like a collage but on inspection under a magnifying glass we can see that it's actually painted. The base of the box details a provenance for the piece.
