Vintage Victorian pelerine cape in fragile condition. The base of the cape has layers of delicate lace and a beaded trim with a frilled ribbon neckline and bow. Laid over the cape is a smaller shoulder cape with matching beading, delicate lace around the top and then a frilled thicker lace around the bottom. The inside exposes all of the hand stitching that went into making this piece, done in a mixture of black and brown thread. It looks as if it was originally stitched in the black thread and then later on, repairs and additions were made in brown thread as there are also areas in the lace where holes have been stitched up in brown thread. The centre front of the cape fastens with hooks and eyes, all of which appear rusted. Missing eyes have been replaced with loops of thread, some of which have snapped. Despite the hole repairs made in the brown thread, there are still holes around the cape in the lace. Inside the cape there are some brown stains. The beaded trim around the cape
