A series of engravings of paintings in the Vernon collection, to which many subscribed and bought in parts as they were issued. The Vernon Collection was donated to the recently instituted National Gallery. These are two volumes which were originally beautifully bound in tooled leather with gilt edged pages, each engraving protected by a sheet of tissue. Unfortunately now the covers are worn, especially the spines. The engravings are in good clear condition, some with slight foxing, printed on heavyweight paper. Each work has an article explaining its story. One volume is called 'National Gallery The Vernon Collection and a selection from the works of modern sculptors', the other volume is the 'Third Series' of the same. 45 paintings in the first book include - The Scanty Meal, Bathers Surprised by a Swan, Rebekah at the Well, The Prince of Orange Landing at Torbay, Wood-Cutting in Windsor Forest.
