A Collection of Articles First Published in the Yellow Springs News for the 2003 Bicentennial of Yellows Springs, Ohio Yellow Springs is an innovative community that has creatively and proactively met its challenges to make it a better place. In 1803, as Tecumseh was leading the Shawnee nation, Lewis Davis, a Greene County surveyor, arrived in what would eventually become the community of Yellow Springs and Miami Township. Fifty years after David came to town, Antioch College opened its doors to students, and in 1856 the Village of Yellow Springs was incorporated. In conjunction with the bicentennial celebration of the state of Ohio in 2003, the Yellow Springs Historical Society declared 2003 a bicentennial year for Yellow Springs, and scheduled a yearlong celebration of historical programs.
