Like phoenix from the ashes the steam locomotive giant represented an absolute revolution for the SNCF after the war. Since the French locomotive stock was very decimated, robust and universally usable Mikado locomotives were ordered in the USA. The first series of 700 locomotives was delivered in 1945, followed by a second series of 640 locomotives until 1947.The 141 R was used in many types of train and was particularly popular for heavy goods and express trains.
