Originally in Spanish, this English translation with its extensive collection of mainly colour plates (individually stuck in) offers us a lavish introduction to Spanish art, sculpture, and architecture across a key period of time. It necessarily cross-references other art movements in Europe, thus giving us a context for the flowering of Spanish art, in its widest sense; sensuous, attentive to detail, dramatic and visually absorbing. The card slip case has protected this book well. The dustjacket has minor wear on some edges and a small sellotape repair at the back; it retains the separate 'belt' advertising the book too. The boards are covered in striking red cloth with gilt lettering, in very good condition. Endpapers have some penciled 1965 pricing and catalogue numbers but are otherwise clean.
