Suspension lamp Melt changes its appearance With the design of the pendant lamp Melt, the designer Tom Dixon in collaboration with the Swedish design collective FRONT has broken new ground, both in terms of the material and its processing, as well as the form. The shape appears very organic, as it results in a seemingly irregular and randomly formed structure. One could also think of a piece of molten glass - hence the name Melt. If you look at Melt when it is switched off, the shade does not seem transparent, but rather mirrored. But if you then switch on the light, the shade becomes translucent with a hint of smoky grey. British designer Tom Dixon, who founded his own label in 2002, said of the Melt series of lamps, "When they're off, they have an organic solid metallic mass, and when they're turned on, they take on a hallucinogenic aura that permeates the viewer."
