Three Uncut £5 Bank Notes from the 1990s First £5 issued in 1793. The note has changed little in design until 1957 when the first coloured note - Series B was issued. 1963 saw series C and 1971 Series D Web presses were used to convert reels of paper into sheets of finished bank notes By 1990s advanced technology meant the web presses were not suited to the demands and £5 printing transferred back to sheet fed machines in early 1993.
