A prolific and early ripening red grape bred in Germany to add body to flavourless red wines. Grape 'Dornfelder' produces good sized, red-black grapes which ripen well in the UK in October and have one of the best flavours when used for desserts, or making wine and juice. This easy to maintain variety has medium vigour and good disease resistance. With their large leaves and good autumn colour, grape vines also make an attractive garden feature when trained over a pergola.. Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years.. Estimated time to best yields: 3 years.Choose a sunny position in any well drained soil. Before planting, prepare a framework of wires stretched horizontally between two sturdy 1.8m posts or attached to a warm wall. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant against the wire supports, allowing a distance of 2m between plants. After planting, reduce the newly planted vine back to the height of the lowest support
