Cabbage ‘Winter Jewel’ is an outstanding variety for growing your own autumn and winter greens. Plants produce evenly sized, smooth, dark leaved ‘greens’ to 30 cm ( 12’’) long. Very slow to heart up, plants eventually form compact, 250g ( 8oz) loose heads. ‘Winter Jewel’ has superb winter hardiness and bolt resistance. This variety has proven outstanding for its excellent flavour, quality, yield and length of harvesting (to April in RHS overwintered/spring 2011 trial). Harvest greens approximately 60 days from transplanting – plants will remain in condition for many weeks. Height: 40cm (16in), Spread: 60cm (24in).Water cabbages regularly particularly during dry periods. Feed throughout the growing season with a high nitrogen feed. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface.
