These peony-like, double blooms make a colourful show in your borders. Tulip 'Murillo Mixed' consists of a range of coloured petals on shorter upright stems, making it perfect for the front of borders. It flowers from April to May, making a lovely springtime display. Why not cut a few flowers to make a beautiful bouquet to show off indoors too? Plant tulip bulbs in late summer or autumn. Tulips will grow well in any moist, well drained soil, except for particularly wet soils. Choose a sunny position that is sheltered from strong winds. When planting tulip bulbs avoid shallow planting as this may reduce the winter cold period that is essential for tulip bulbs to produce flowers in spring. Plant them at a depth of 15cm (6") and at a distance of 13cm (5") apart. After flowering, deadhead the faded tulip flowers and allow the foliage to die back completely before removing it in summer.
