Flamenco has it all – a deliciously sweet taste, an extremely long cropping period and bumper harvests throughout the season. It is a versatile plant, suitable for planting in strawberry beds, containers and even in hanging baskets where the fruit will be protected from slugs and snails.Plant bare root strawberries in autumn or later spring in well manured, free-draining soil in a sheltered spot in full sun. Position plants with roots well spread out 45cm (18’’) apart with 75cm (30’’) between rows. Ensure they are not planted too deeply to avoid rotting - the crown of the plant should be just visible above the surface of the soil. Strawberry plants need watering regularly during the growing season and the rows should be kept weed free. Container and hanging basket plants require feeding every two weeks once the fruits begin to develop.Remove any runners from early summer onwards, as these will use the plant’s energy and weaken growth.
