Sarcoccoca confusa, also known as Winter Box or Sweet Box, provides you with wonderful year-round greenery and structure with its glossy green foliage, but it really come into its own during mid-winter when it produces masses of small white flowers which have the most incredible sweet fragrance. As a nice little extra detail, the flowers are then followed by small black berries from late spring onwards. This versatile shrub is easy to grow and very low-maintenance, asking for very little in terms of care whilst providing long-lasting interest year after year. It’s very resilient and relatively unfussy about soil or location, thriving in what can be tricky areas like dry shade or north or east-facing gardens.
