Less vigorous than other species, Parthenocissus henryana is a majestic deciduous climber with twining stems. Plants will cloak walls in a dense covering of palmate, deep green, velvety leaves that are tinted bronze-pink when young, with prominent silver veins. In autumn, the foliage turns to radiant shades of red and orange, enhanced by attractive clusters of blue-black berries. Tolerant of both sun and shade, this plant olds an RHS Award of Garden Merit for its garden performance and it is particularly useful for tricky north facing walls that get little sun. This magnificent Chinese Virginia Creeper will require plenty of space as it reaches a height of up to 12m with a spread of up to 4m. Grow Virginia Creeper in any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or deep to partial shade. Plants will give their best autumn colour in a slightly shaded position. Prune Parthenocissus plants as and when required throughout the season, removing longer shoots to keep plants in control. Tie shoot
