Popularised by the Victorians, the graceful fronds of the Parlour Palm make this one of the most recognisable house plants. Elegant and slow growing, this reliable evergreen palm is easy to grow from seed. These palms make stylish and architectural additions to a bright room or conservatory and require little maintenance throughout the year. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59"). Sow seeds on the surface of a good, free draining, damp seed compost and lightly cover, 3mm (1/8") deep with vermiculite or compost. Place container in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 25-30C (77-86F) until after germination which usually takes 10-42 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, taking care not to damage the fragile roots, into 7.5cm (3") pots. Pot on into a larger container each time roots fill the pot.
