Flowering later than most varieties, Lonicera periclymenum ‘Serotina’ will fragrance the air with its distinctive perfume well into autumn. After the flowers, it continues the display with small, glassy red berries that are loved by birds. Whorls of tubular pink and white honeysuckle flowers adorn the twining stems of this traditional cottage garden climber. A lovely climber for an informal display on walls and fences, or training over free-standing obelisks. Height: 7m. Spread: 1.5m. Plant honeysuckle against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free draining soil. Poor soils can be improved by adding plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in sun or semi-shade. When growing honeysuckle in patio containers, use soil-based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Caution: Honeysuckle berries are harmful if eaten.
