Superb for autumn colour, Leucothoe 'Scarletta' has attractive leaves, which emerge as glossy dark maroon, turning green as they mature, before becoming bronze by autumn. Ideal for acid borders, Leucothoe is an evergreen shrub that’s great for covering the ground. This pretty plant prefers to grow in partial or deep shade, although its foliage looks almost metallic when grown in full sun. Exotic to look at by easy to grow, Leucothoe plants are hardy and low-maintenance. Where soils are not naturally acidic, grow Leucothoe in containers using an ericaceous compost mix.
