Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Purple’ is a variety of ornamental Sweet Potato Vine, with deeply cut lobed dark purple leaves. This evergreen perennial is often grown as an annual, and has a trailing habit ideal for groundcover, containers and hanging baskets - it can also be trained up trellis. Relatively low maintenance and fast growing, foliage tends to remain low and dense to the ground and can be pruned back as desired. Plant sweet potato vines from late spring to early summer, after all danger of frost has passed, spacing plants 100-150cm inches apart. Plant Ipomoea in rich, well-drained soil, in full sun or semi shade. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. For containers use high-quality all-purpose potting soil and ensure there is good drainage.
