Field Maple (Acer campestre) is a stocky, hardy variety perfect for creating a beautiful boundary hedge which lights up the garden in autumn with its lovely foliage colour. The leave form a solid covering throughout most of the year, acting as an effective screen for privacy and also filtering noise pollution from nearby roads. This native RHS AGM variety also provides a great habitat for wild birds. Easy to grow in most gardens and conditions, you can prune it to be as big or small as you like and then maintain with regular clipping to create a uniform, neat hedge. Supplied as 60 - 90cm bareroots. Planting Distance: 30 - 45 cm (12" - 18") or 4 plants per metre for a single line hedge. Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
