Grow these showy ball Dahlias to add a splash of tropical colour to summer borders! Curving petals form the rounded flower heads of Dahlia 'Sylvia', which are borne on unusual brown stems. This showy Dahlia flowers throughout summer and well into autumn. Its shapely blooms make splendid cut flowers that will add an exotic touch to summer flower arrangements. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 50cm (20"). Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6") and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost-free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.
