Thompson & Morgan Clematis 'Ville de Lyon' is one of the late climbers to start flowering in the garden but well worth adding into borders or pots and containers on the patio. Deep purple-red flowers start to appear mid-summer continuing through into autumn, providing a long-lasting show of colour. Try planting at the back of borders to provide height to your displays. Plant Thompson & Morgan Clematis 'Ville de Lyon' in sun or semi shade, in moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3”) below soil level to encourage new shoots to form at the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are either too wet or too dry. These particular soil types can be improved by the addition of planty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. When growing in containers or pots use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
