More commonly known as the common Sweetshrub, this hardy shrub is unique! It emits a heavenly spicy scent from both its deep red flowers and glossy green foliage that has been described as similar to that of cinnamon. Magnolia like flowers bloom from early summer, yet as the flowers begin to fade away the Carolina allspice maintains its spicy fragrance, turning to a shade of buttery yellow during the autumn months. Carolina allspice is an extremely adaptable specimen, making this such an easy variety to grow and maintain. It is hardy and able to withstand reasonably bad conditions and will adapt to the soil type that is present. This exotic looking shrub is also useful in the kitchen! The twigs from the Carolina allspice can be cut and dried out using sunlight or an oven and used in cooking. The flowers from the Carolina allspice are also often used in potpourri due to its natural spicy fragrance. In order to get the best from your Calycanthus, they will require well-drained, moist soi
