Before the pink tubular flowers appear you will see glossy and vibrant yellow-green foliage that will make a striking feature in the garden. From the middle of summer right through until autumn the blooms will appear making a stunning display. This variety is ideal for borders or informal hedging. Plant Abelia x grandiflora in garden borders in any fertile, well drained garden soil, in full sun. Alternatively grow Abelia plants in patio containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Feed and water container-grown plants regularly. Deadhead faded Abelia flowers to prolong the flowering season. In exposed areas or those where winters are severe, apply a deep bark mulch around the base of Glossy Abelia plants in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound mulch up against the main stem. Alternatively protect with horticultural fleece.
