Widely regarded as one of the most compelling accounts of Polar exploration, this is a first edition of volume 1 of Aspley Cherry-Garrard's remarkable work. This first volume is a narrative of Scott's tragic last expedition from its departure from England in 1910 to its return to New Zealand in 1913. With fold out maps, water colour sketches and black and white photographs, including a remarkable fold out panoramic view. This is an ex-library copy, and bears the usual stamps (see photos). The boards are worn and a little grubby. The binding is firm, although starting to split at the frontispiece and appendix. The leaves are clean, with no foxing.
