The full title as printed on the title page is "The Scots Worthies their lives and testimonies with an historical introduction and illustrations". No publication date is given but the preface by John Howie is dated 1775. The book contains first a biographical sketch of John Howie, followed by a historical introduction to the book, then John Howie's preface, then the introduction, then the lives and testimonies, then a supplement of 11 more lives and then an Appendix. It is bound in brown leather covered boards with a half-binding in darker leather which has a blind-stamped line decoration. The spine has seven raised bands with blind-stamped decoration and a darker brown title label. Part of the leather on both covers is missing, as shown in the photos. The covers are are very scuffed, edgeworn and corner-bumped commensurate with age. The front cover is attached to the spine and textblock by a badly cracked hinge with the netting showing.
